Carbon materials, with excellent electronic properties and easily modifiable structural advantages, are the apex electrode materials for many electrochemical reactions. However, due to the lack of basic understanding of carbon surface chemistry, there are many misunderstandings in the application process of carbon electrodes. In this paper, we take the electrolysis of water reaction as an example, and discuss in depth the problems and application prospects of carbon materials in the process of electrochemical water oxidation; and systematically reveal the dynamic changes of the surface structure of carbon materials in the oxidation process and their roles in the application of water decomposition, and the related understanding further deepens the understanding of the structure and properties of carbon materials, and provides theoretical support for the development of the field of carbon materials. The related results were published inChemSusChem.
